Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board Home Page


The Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board is the statutory body empowered to protect and improve the salmon fisheries in the Tay district.

This means looking after not just Atlantic salmon - Salmo Salar but the River Tay as a whole.

This website provides details of its activities, including information on governance, meetings and information on the salmon and salmon fisheries of the River Tay, the largest salmon river in Scotland.

The Scottish Government is proposing that from 2016, any proprietor wishing to kill salmon will require a licence from the Government and all killed fish will require to be tagged. Scottish Ministers are running a consultation until 30 April.

River Tay Conservation Code 2015

The Board's Catch and Release / Conservation Code has been updated for the 2015 season to take account of new MANDATORY CATCH AND RELEASE REGULATIONS FOR JANUARY TO MARCH which have been introduced by Scottish Government. ALL ANGLERS MUST BE AWARE OF THESE BEFORE FISHING IN SPRING 2015. Read more here.

Opening of the River Tay Salmon Season 2015

The 2015 salmon season opened on Thursday 15 January. Well known actor and angling personality, Paul Young, opened the river at the Hilton Dunkeld House Hotel.

  EGM to discuss future of season extension


Proprietors decided at the AGM on 12 December that the Board should NOT seek a permanent extension of the Tay salmon season after the end of the four year trial.
