Perhaps more than 1,500 extra salmon will be produced, increasing
the run on the River Tummel by 33% at least. These will be a mixture of spring salmon and summer grilse, the most precious of all the run types of salmon.
This will not only benefit
fisheries in the area but, ironically, it will add to the attraction of places like the Pitlochry Dam fish ladder
viewing chamber, one of Scotland's most visited tourist destinations!
As the dried-up bed of the Garry is highly
visible from the A9 road, perhaps Scotland's most important tourist gateway into the Highlands, and indeed the Perth to Inverness railway line, it will improve the landscape along this vital tourist route.
Many other species apart from fish will benefit
from the improved habitats, for example otters and
dippers.
