The inaugural Tay Salmon Conservation Award was presented on 9th March 2006 to Mr Duncan Glass, secretary/treasurer of the Tay Ghillies Association. The Conservation Award has been instigated to honour individuals or groups who make an outstanding contribution to the welfare of the Tay system and its salmon. It is fitting the first ever award was made to Mr Glass who has made a tremendous contribution in recent years bringing considerable skills and energy, especially with regards fundraising. After receiving his award, Mr Glass commented that the Tay Ghillies Association had raised £104,000 towards river projects in 2005 alone and aspired to even more in future.
The award was made at the inaugural Tay Salmon Conservation Award Dinner, which was held in the splendid surroundings of Scone Palace and was attended by nearly 120 guests. Mr Glass (centre) is seen receiving the Ballathie Trophy, a fine bronze cast of three salmon swimming, from Mrs Morag Milligan. Sir Max Hastings was the guest speaker at this most successful event.
